Faysal Sohail is a venture capitalist at CMEA Capital in San Francisco, CA. He joined the firm in 2002 as a General Partner, bringing with him more than a decade of senior executive experience in engineering, marketing, business development and building start ups. Since 2002, he has led venture capital funding to several key start ups in both the energy and technology sectors. He currently serves on the board of directors of AirTight Networks, NEA-Indo US Ventures, Evolution Robotics and Multigig. Previously, Faysal served on A123 Systems board as an observer and Board of Applied Wave Research.
Before joining CMEA, Faysal helped to build three companies – Cadabra Design Automation (merged with Numerical Technologies), Silicon Architects (merged with Synopsys; SNPS) and Actel Corporation (ACTL) – which all became successful via either IPO or through merger or acquisition. Faysal holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), where he also served on the College of Engineering Advisory Board (CEAB). Faysal currently serves on the Advisory Board of IVIE (Illinois Venture Investors & Entrepreneurs Forum).
Youssri Helmy is chairman of IdealRatings, a global financial information provider for socially responsible investors. He is an accomplished entrepreneur with more than 20 years experience bringing new technologies to market and growing companies. As co-founder of ITWorx, Mr. Helmy grew the company to become the Middle East’s largest software outsourcing firm before a consortium of private equity investors acquired it in 2007. As the original inventor and co-founder of Swan Labs Mr. Helmy capitalized on the then nascent network optimization segment, and the company was later sold to F5. Youssri is a board member of Endeavor Egypt.
Hossam A. H. Fahmy, CTO earned his PhD from the Electrical Engineering Department of Stanford University, USA in 2003. He received his BSc and MSc degrees from the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department of Cairo University, Egypt in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Currently, he is an Associate Professor with the same department where he leads research on computer arithmetic, computer architecture, and computer fonts.
He has taught previously at the German University in Cairo, the American University in Cairo, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Dr. Fahmy's previous research include collaborations with IMEC in Belgium, IBM T.J. Watson research center in USA, and AMD in California, USA. He served as a member of the working group developing the IEEE standard 754-2008 on Floating Point Arithmetic from 2002 till its publication in 2008. He is currently serving as a member of the working group formulating the future IEEE standard P1788 on Interval Arithmetic. Dr. Fahmy is co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of SilMinds the world leader in providing hardware decimal floating point units.
Hany Alsonbaty is one of the most experienced VC in the MENA region with over 12 years of experience. Prior to co-founding Sawari Ventures, he was a Partner at EFG-Hermes Private Equity heading their TMT and Venture Capital business. Whilst at EFG Hermes, he managed over USD 200 million of TMT related investments and was involved with many of the region’s pioneering technology companies including Maktoob.com, LinkdotNet, ITWorx, Raya and NextMedia Holdings. Hany was also instrumental in the creation of IdeaVelopers - EFG-Hermes’ venture capital arm – and the formation of its Technology Development Funds, which aim to nurture and grow the next generation of TMT companies. Prior to joining EFG-Hermes, Hany was a Development Engineer at Motorola’s distributor in Egypt. Hany holds a B.Eng. and M.Sc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Imperial College, London.

Later, he founded SilMinds in 2008 and since then he serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SilMinds. Mostafa helped in growing SilMinds by managing every activity within the company in its early stages. Mostafa is a public speaker in the field of entrepreneurship, innovation management and fund raising. Prior to SilMinds, Mostafa was a researcher and teaching assistant in the American University in Cairo. Mostafa holds a B.Sc and a M.Sc. in electrical engineering, both from Ain Shams University.
